Pacheco Fire Plummage

Pacheco Fire 06/25/2011 From Los Alamos
A fire has been burning in the Santa Fe Mountains for the past week.  It has been ebbing and flowing, so to speak, during that week.

However, yesterday the fire was exhibiting some awesome plummage and I was trying to think of a cool vantage point to take the picture...many went to the pull off on the main hill...but as I was traveling down Diamond Drive I realized the best vantage point might be the corridor that Canyon Drive might give as a frame to the fire.

So I pulled into the nearest parking lot, pulled out the D700 with a Nikon 70-200 and got this shot.  The compression that the 200 brought to the scene worked well in making the fire look closer than it really is, as the fire is in the Santa Fe Mountains East of Los Alamos.
