4th of July 2013

Yup, it's time for the obligatory 4th of July pictures post...

After a very looooong day working in the back yard, it was a delight to head down to Overlook park in White Rock to stake out a section of grass, grab some grub, and relax for a couple of hours.

We got to the park in time for dinner and stood in line at a vendor cart of what seemed an eternity (mainly because my stomach was angry hungry and reminding me that I wasn't doing a good job of taking care of it while I waited!).

After all of us ate our fill on our comfy blankets, I got the camera ready for the fireworks show.  Much to the initial mortification of my daughters I got the "Seriously, Dad?".  However, it's just for show I think....they realize this is totally normal behavior for me, and me thinks that they are not really surprised, but have to do their part in being a daughter to call me out on my weirdness....

As the sun was setting, I rolled my carcass over and saw this shot.  I shot in manual, and underexposed quite a bit...
Once the fireworks started I played around with the shutter speeds.  I had set the camera to perform Long Exposure Noise Reduction in camera (Nikon D700), and while it does the job quite well, but the save time to the card increases dramatically.  Made it a little frustrating.

I shot the exposures between 2 second and 3 second shutter speeds, but at a stop of f/5.6...next year I shall try a f/8 aperture.

Until next time: Love Yourself, Love Your Neighbor, and Stay Unique!
