Mental Illness Awareness: You Are Not Alone

A year ago, March, we were told our son had Paranoid Schizophrenia.  Two words that would explain so much, yet throw us into a world of fear and uncertainty...through NAMI, we found we were not alone....

This is a video I have put together from our participation in the recent NAMI Walks fundraising event.  For those curious, it was all shot on my Nikon D800.  The black and white segments were shot with a custom profile setting I created in camera.  Music licensing provided by First Com Music.

Visit http://www.nami.org to find out more of how this wonderful organization advocates and helps those suffering from mental illness in addition to supporting families, friends, and caregivers of those suffering from mental illness.

Until next time:

Mental Illness Awareness Walk

In March of 2013, our son was diagnosed with a mental illness...

Needless to say, our world was a little scary and uncertain during that time and the months to come.
Thankfully, we were not alone....
Through my wife's efforts, she found an organization that helps those with mental illness along with support for family and loved ones supporting those with mental illness.  The organization is NAMI - National Alliance on Mental Illness.

And I love their tagline: Mental Illness Affects Everyone.

In the first part of May, we participated in the local NAMIWalks fundraising effort.  Diane totally kicked butt in raising most of our team's donations.  Oh, and our team name is "Forever Young".  Yeah, chalk that up to Diane's creativity, not mine!

If you would like more information on NAMI, please visit their website at www.nami.org.  For information on the NAMIWalks, go to www.namiwalks.org.

AND finally, you can visit our team fundraising page at  http://namiwalks.nami.org/foreveryoung2014.

May is Mental Illness Awareness month, so if you would like to donate to NAMI, you can still donate at our page!  The money goes straight to NAMI, and I believe it is tax deductible.

And of course, a few pictures from our walk that I took...what?...you didn't think I wasn present without the camera?

Until next time:

Spring Break!

Sometimes the spontaneous trips are the most pleasant!  On the Thursday before my daughter's spring break, we were all in the car talking about what we were going to do for Spring Break.  And in almost perfect unison, we all yelled "San Diego!".
So the next day, we packed up the car, and split for San Diego.  Straight through..14 hours.

It was worth it.  We had a very relaxing and joyous time.  And of course, I shot most everything in black and white...if you haven't heard, I'm a black and white junkie....and as usual, my wife and daughter were gracious in allowing me to take my photos!

We took I-40 to Los Angeles.  And along the stretch around Palm Springs, they have A LOT of windmill farms.  I put the patience of my wife and daughter to test, and parked the car in a gas station parking lot, and walked over an overpass and put my camera on the railing and got this shot.
